Since the 30 June 1997 release of the first novel Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (re-titled Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone in the United States), HGH Energizer the books have gained immense popularity, critical acclaim and commercial success worldwide. The series has also had some share of criticism, including concern for the increasingly dark tone. As of June 2011, the book series has sold about 450 million copies and has been translated into 67 languages, and the last four books consecutively set records as the fastest-selling books in history.

A series of many genres, including fantasy and coming of age (with elements of mystery, thriller, and romance), it has many cultural meanings and references. According plaque attack to Rowling, the main theme is death, although it is primarily considered to be a work of children’s literature. There are also many other themes in the series, such as love and prejudice.

English-language versions of the books are published by Bloomsbury in the United Kingdom, Scholastic Press in the United States, Allen & Unwin in Australia, slim ts and Raincoast Books in Canada. By 2010, the first six books had been made into films by Warner Bros. Pictures; it is the highest grossing film series of all time. The seventh book was split into two films: Part 1 was released on 19 November 2010 and the series finale on 15 July 2011. The series also originated much tie-in merchandise, making the Harry Potter brand worth in excess of $15 billion.

Wizarding world

When the story of Harry Potter opens, it is clear that some remarkable event has taken place in the wizarding world, an event so very remarkable that even the Muggles notice signs of it. The full background to the stories and to the person of Harry Potter is only revealed gradually, through the series. In the first book Harry discovers that as a baby he witnessed his parents’ murder by the power-obsessed dark wizard, Lord Voldemort, who then attempted to kill him also. For reasons not immediately revealed, the spell with which Voldemort tried to kill Harry rebounded. Harry survives with only a lightning-shaped scar on his forehead as a memento of the attack, and Voldemort disappears. As its inadvertent saviour from Voldemort’s reign of terror, Harry becomes a living legend in the wizard world. However, at the orders of his patron, the venerable and well-known wizard Albus Dumbledore, the orphaned Harry is placed in the home of his unpleasant Muggle (non-wizard) relatives (The Dursleys), who keep him safe but hide his true heritage from him in hopes that he will grow up “normally”.

The first novel in the series, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (changed in the U.S. to Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone), begins near Harry’s eleventh birthday. Half-giant Rubeus Hagrid reveals Harry’s history and introduces him to the wizarding world. The environment J. K. Rowling created is completely separate from reality yet intimately connected to it. While the fantasy land of Narnia is an alternative universe and the Lord of the Rings’ Middle-earth a mythic past, the wizarding world of Harry Potter contains magical elements right to bare legs similar to things in everyday life. Many of its institutions and locations are recognizable, such as London. It comprises a fragmented collection of hidden streets, overlooked and ancient pubs, lonely country manors and secluded castles that remain invisible to the Muggle population.

With Hagrid’s help, Harry prepares for and undertakes his first year of study at Hogwarts. As Harry begins to explore the magical world, the reader is introduced to many of the primary locations used throughout the series. Harry meets most of the main characters and gains his two closest friends: Ron Weasley, a fun-loving member of an ancient, large, happy, but hard-up wizarding family, and Hermione Granger, a gifted and hard working witch of non-magical parentage. Harry also encounters the school’s potions master, Severus Snape, who displays a deep and abiding dislike for him. The plot concludes with Harry’s second confrontation with Lord Voldemort, who in his quest for immortality, yearns to gain the power of the Philosopher’s Stone.

The series continues with Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets describing Harry’s second year at Hogwarts. He and his friends investigate a 50-year-old mystery that appears tied to recent sinister events at the school. Ron’s younger sister, Ginny Weasley, enrols in her first year at Hogwarts, and finds a notebook which turns out to be Voldemort’s school-time diary. Ginny becomes Atlanta bankruptcy attorney possessed by Voldemort through the diary and opens the “Chamber of Secrets”, unleashing an ancient monster within, which begins attacking students at Hogwarts. The novel delves into the history of Hogwarts and a legend revolving around the Chamber. Also, for the first time, Harry realises that racial prejudice exists in the wizarding world, and he learns that Voldemort’s reign of terror was often directed at wizards who were descended from Muggles. Harry is also shocked to learn that he can speak Parseltongue, the language of snakes; this rare ability is often equated with the dark arts. The novel ends after Harry saves the life of Ginny Weasley, by destroying a Basilisk and the diary, in which Voldemort saved a piece of his soul (although Harry does not realise this until later in the series). The concept of storing part of one’s soul inside of an object in order to prevent death is officially introduced in the sixth novel under the term “horcrux”.

The third novel, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, follows Harry in his third year of magical education. It is the only book in the series which does not feature Voldemort. Instead, Harry must deal with the knowledge that he has been targeted by Sirius Black, an escaped murderer believed to have assisted in the deaths of Harry’s parents. As Harry struggles with his reaction to the dementors—dark creatures with the power to devour a human soul—which are ostensibly protecting the school, he reaches out to Remus Lupin, a Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher with a dark secret. Lupin teaches Harry defensive measures which are well above the level of magic generally shown by people his age. Harry learns that both Lupin and Black were close friends of his father and that Black was framed by their fourth friend, Peter Pettigrew. In this book, another recurring theme throughout the series is emphasised—in every book there is a new Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher, none of whom lasts more than one school year. In the sixth book, it is implied that the job has actually been jinxed.

Voldemort Returns

During Harry’s fourth year of school (detailed in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire) Harry is unwillingly entered as a participant in the Triwizard Tournament, a dangerous contest with witches and wizards of visiting schools. Harry attempts to discover who entered him in the tournament and, more importantly, why. Harry is guided through the tournament by Professor Alastor “Mad-Eye” Moody, who turns out to be an impostor — one of Voldemort’s supporters in disguise. The whole event turns out to be a plan to bring Voldemort back to power. The point at which the mystery is unraveled marks the series’ shift from foreboding and uncertainty into open conflict. The novel ends with the death of Cedric Diggory, one of Harry’s opponents in the tournament, and Voldemort’s resurgence.

In the fifth book, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Harry must confront the newly resurfaced Voldemort. In response to Voldemort’s reappearance, Dumbledore re-activates the Order of the Phoenix, a secret society which works from Sirius Black’s dark family home to defeat Voldemort’s minions and protect Voldemort’s targets, especially Harry. The Order includes many of the adults Harry trusts, including Remus Lupin, Sirius Black, and members of the Weasley family, but also some surprising members; the loyalties of some characters are not so obvious, such as Mundungus Fletcher. Despite Harry’s description of Voldemort’s recent activities, the Ministry of Magic and many others in the magical world refuse to believe that Voldemort has returned.

In an attempt to counter and eventually discredit Dumbledore, who along with Harry is the most prominent voice in the Wizarding World attempting to warn of the Dark Lord’s return, the Ministry appoints Dolores Umbridge as the High Inquisitor of Hogwarts. She transforms the school into a dictatorial regime and refuses to allow www.wingfam.org the students to learn ways to defend themselves against dark magic. Harry forms “Dumbledore’s Army”, a secret study group to teach his classmates the higher-level skills of Defence Against the Dark Arts that he has learned. The novel introduces Harry to Luna Lovegood, an airy young witch with a tendency to believe in oddball conspiracy theories. An important prophecy concerning Harry and Voldemort is revealed, and Harry discovers that he and Voldemort have a painful connection, allowing Harry to view some of Voldemort’s actions telepathically. Max Burn n the novel’s climax, Harry and his school friends face off against Voldemort’s Death Eaters, who include the rich and arrogant Malfoy family. The timely arrival of members of the Order of the Phoenix saves the children’s lives and allows many of the Death Eaters to be captured and imprisoned.

In Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, the protagonists, who are in their sixth year, have passed their Ordinary Wizarding Level (OWL) exams and start on their specialist Nastily Exhausting Wizarding Test (NEWT) courses. Voldemort is leading another wizarding war, which has become so violent that even Muggles have noticed some of its effects. Although Harry and friends are relatively protected from that danger at Hogwarts, they are subject to all the difficulties of adolescence. At the beginning of the novel, Harry stumbles upon an old potions textbook filled with annotations and recommendations signed by a mysterious writer, the Half-Blood Prince. While the shortcuts written in the book help Harry to excel at potions, he eventually learns to mistrust the anonymous writer’s spells. Harry also takes private tutoring with Albus Dumbledore, who shows him various memories concerning the early life of Voldemort. These reveal that Voldemort’s soul is splintered into a series of horcruxes, evil enchanted items hidden in various locations. Harry’s snobbish adversary, Draco Malfoy, attempts to attack Dumbledore, and the book culminates in the killing of Dumbledore by Professor Snape.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, the last book in the series, begins directly after the events of the sixth book. Voldemort has Smoke Assist completed his ascension to power and gains control of the Ministry of Magic. Harry, Ron, and Hermione drop out of school so that they can find and destroy Voldemort’s remaining horcruxes. To ensure their own safety as well as that of their family and friends, they are forced to isolate themselves. As they search for the horcruxes, the Shake Weight trio learn details about Dumbledore’s past, as well as Snape’s true motives.

The book culminates in the www.baumannsafe.com Battle of Hogwarts. Harry, Ron, and Hermione, in conjunction with members of the Order of the Phoenix and many of the teachers and students, defend Hogwarts from Voldemort, his Death Eaters, and various magical creatures. affiliate marketing Several major characters are killed in the first wave of the battle and Voldemort resumes his intention to kill Harry. In an effort to save the survivors, Magic Mesh Harry surrenders himself but the battle resumes as the parents of many Hogwarts students, residents of the nearby village Hogsmeade and other magical creatures arrive to reinforce the Order of the Phoenix. After a while, Harry returns from the dead. With the last horcrux destroyed (Harry), Harry finally faces Voldemort. Harry offers the Dark Lord a chance at remorse, but Voldemort ignores this and attempts to kill Harry one final time; resulting in Voldemort’s death, again, by a rebounding spell (the complications of which are described in depth near the end of the novel). An epilogue describes the lives of the surviving characters and the effects on the wizarding world.

The number is particularly meaningful since it places him at #2 in all-time first-week singles sales. Flo Rida’s track “Right Round,” featuring a then up-and-coming Ke$ha, has the Biebs beat, according to Hits Daily Double. Flo’s track sits at #1 with 636,000 units moved. Other big sellers include the Black Eyed Peas’ “Boom Boom Pow” with 465,000 in downloads (#3), and Mother Monster herself, Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” selling 447,000 (#4).

Not only are fans gobbling up the single, but his real-life girlfriend, Selena Gomez, has given the song two thumbs up. “Is it my ring tone? No. I didn’t even know you could make it a ring tone,” Gomez told E! News. “It is a great song.”

Bieber is hardly resting on his laurels. The teen star is back in the studio working on Believe. He explained on Twitter that the album, for which “Boyfriend” is the lead single, will go there. “Here making music addressing the past and the rumors, clearing it all up in the music. Im putting it all out there on this album. #BELIEVE,” he tweeted.

He also tweeted out silly videos of himself acting goofy on mock-up sets of the “Boyfriend” video, which he shot last week. In one, he stands in front of a green screen of icy land and in another he stands in front of a green screen of a fireplace.

Of course, Bieber already shared that there really will be fire and ice in the video. “The concept of this video, I mean it’s not like a steady concept,” he explained to MTV News on the Cali-based set in between shots. “It’s not like ‘Justin follows this girl to this spot.’ No, it’s a bunch of amazing scenes: Like a fire scene, we have an ice scene.

“It’s kind of like bouncing back and forth,” he said. “And then there’s scenes of me and just a bunch of girl dancers, and just some great shots, great artistic shots, great shots of me smiling. It’s fun.”

It’s been a long time since filmmaker Eli Roth’s last directorial effort, but the hiatus is officially over ? and judging by the title alone, the results are bound to be explosive.

The Hollywood Reporter has the news out of Cannes that Roth’s next slated to direct “The Green Inferno,” a horror thriller about… well, we don’t know, actually. The story is being kept a secret for now, but Roth’s certainly enthusiastic about his top-secret plans.

“I’ve had an amazing few years producing, writing and acting, and am very excited to get back in the director’s chair. I’ve been working on this idea for several years, and was inspired by filming in [Chile] and cannot wait to get back,” he said in a statement, referring to his recent experience shooting the movie “Aftershock” in South America.

Real-Life West Memphis Three Murder Case Readies for Cameras
Colin Firth and Reese Witherspoon will be appearing in the upcoming “Devil’s Knot,” which was recently given the green light while making the rounds at Cannes. This is the project centering on the tragic tale of the recently freed West Memphis Three and is based on a best-selling novel by investigative journalist Mara Leveritt about the grisly murder of three 8-year-old boys. The case saw three local teens locked up, accused of slaying the children in a gruesome satanic ritual. After an 18-year prison sentence, the boys were proven innocent and released. This is one of two films about the emotional and controversial case. The film will start shooting next month in Georgia.

Elijah Wood is a ‘Maniac’ in Early Film Teaser
Dread Central shared an early teaser trailer for the remake of the 1980 slasher favorite “Maniac,” directed by William Lustig. Elijah Wood takes over the lunatic serial killer role that Joe Spinell first made famous. French horror director Alexandre Aja (“Piranha 3-D”) is producing the tale about the obsessive, antisocial murderer who works at an antique mannequin shop. (We really wish those existed!) After meeting a young woman, our killer’s instinct to stalk and slay becomes overwhelming. The trailer is unfinished, but it looks like an interesting take on the gritty original. Does Wood look believable as a butchering fiend so far?

‘The Possession’ Trailer Terrifies
Remember that movie being dubbed “The Dibbuk Box?” It’s now being called “The Possession,” and it actually looks terrifying. Lionsgate’s film about a family that find themselves in possession of a haunted box and their daughter who becomes obsessed with it ? and later disturbingly possessed ? will be in theaters on August 31. Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Kyra Sedgwick, Madison Davenport, and Natasha Calis star. Give it a watch and let us know if you agree that this may be the possessed girl tale to trump them all.

Long-Gestating ‘Suspiria’ Remake Starts Casting
We’ve been hearing about it for ages ? and frankly, some of us hoped it would never happen ? but David Gordon Green’s adaptation of Dario Argento’s Italian horror opus “Suspiria” has finally started casting. We know that Isabelle Fuhrman of “Orphan” and “The Hunger Games” fame will star as the movie’s lead ballerina Suzy Bannion. She attends a famous dance school and discovers it’s a front for something far more sinister. We were hoping for “The House of the Devil’s” Jocelin Donahue, and we’re not sure that casting a teen actor thrills us, but Fuhrman’s “Orphan” role was enjoyable and proved she was able to tackle dark subject matter. A more exciting addition to the cast is “The Piano Teacher’s” Isabelle Huppert who will most likely play a witch, which should be some amazing stuff to watch unfold on screen. Janet McTeer (“The Woman in Black”), Michael Nyqvist (“The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo”), and Antje Traue (“Man of Steel”) join them. “Suspiria” goes before the cameras in September.

‘Carrie’ Remake Invites More Victims to the Prom
The upcoming remake of “Carrie” is moving along nicely. Variety shared that “Chronicle” star Alex Russell and off-Broadway actor Ansel Elgort are negotiating roles in the film that already stars “Dark Shadow’s” Chloe Moretz (Carrie) Julianne Moore (Carrie’s nutty, religious mom), and Gabriella Wilde (Carrie’s classmate). “Boys Don’t Cry” director Kimberly Peirce directs the film about an awkward teen that gets picked on at school, but eventually uses her creepy telekinetic powers to attack back at the prom. Is there anyone you were hoping to see getting cast in the horror adaptation?

Rob Zombie Reveals Truth about Rumored Projects
Everyone’s focused on Rob Zombie’s upcoming “Lords of Salem,” but website Screen Crush wanted to find out more about the director-musician’s already announced, but nowhere to be found, projects he was previously attached to: “Werewolf Women of the S.S.” and “Tyrannosaurus Rex.” The filmmaker filled in the blanks, sharing some interesting truths: “Neither of those are film projects I?m working on. ‘Werewolf Women of the SS’ was just what it was; it was a fake trailer for a Quentin Tarantino movie. That?s all it was ever supposed to be; it was never going to be a full movie. ?Tyrannosaurus Rex? is a script that I wrote, that I have, but it?s not planned anytime soon. We finished ?Lords of Salem?, and I?ll be doing music for the next year and a half; within that year and a half maybe we?ll do ‘Tyrannosaurus Rex,’ maybe not. B: … Born This Way Ball! We were there when Gaga announced the name of the tour in Atlantic City, New Jersey, last year, and it has been hinted that we can expect an “electro pop opera.” She had us at “opera.”

C: Castle. Mother Monster tweeted an image of the stage design for the tour, and the elaborate gothic castle has us excited.

D: “Dark.” Gaga’s former creative director, Laurieann Gibson, opened up just last week about why she parted ways with the pop star, telling “ET Canada” that Gaga’s ideas “got a little dark for me creatively.”

Despite the fact that “disco fever” lived and basically died in the 1970s, Summer’s music continues to live on. Her many unforgettable hits like “Last Dance,” “Love to Love You Baby” and “She Works Hard for the Money” transcended genres and left an indelible mark on all pop culture, from the music charts to television and film. A quick perusal of Summer’s eclectic IMDb page demonstrates the fact that her music is the go-to for filmmakers and show-runners looking for that perfect dance number in their TV show or film.

“Her songs are so iconic that people use them as shorthand either to convey disco or those songs lend themselves to montage-type stuff,” Entertainment Weekly music editor Leah Greenblatt told MTV News. ” ‘She Works Hard for the Money’ is always used for when a lady is going about her business. Songs like ‘Love to Love You’ and ‘I Feel Love’ are almost like a ‘bow-chicka-bow-wow,’ in that they always convey sex, whether that’s in an ironic way or in a real way.”

Two relatively recent comedic examples include the memorable love scene/orgy in “Zoolander” set to “Love to Love You” and Cameron Diaz’s group dance number in “Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle,” set to “Last Dance.”

“A lot of her songs were almost cinematic in the way that their lyrics and music were arranged,” Greenblatt said of the repeated use of Summer’s songs for television and film. “A lot of [scenes] can go out or end on ‘Last Dance.’ ‘She Works Hard for the Money’ is all about when a woman has to go out and earn in a movie; it’s the perfect music cue. And when someone is having a threesome with a Sherpa [like in 'Zoolander'], her music was so great for that.”

Greenblatt went on to say that Summer’s songs will continue to provide the soundtrack to key moments in our lives.

“There was a time when disco was really derided and dismissed, but it would be really hard to find a person over 25 or 30 who doesn’t have these songs as part of their DNA. Whether or not you liked disco, it’s really hard to deny her voice and her talent,” she said. “Her music stands out because she was such a great singer and because a lot of her songs were about emotions too. You can really feel in her voice that she means it.

“Also, how many artists have music that has been featured on ‘Sex and the City,’ ‘Parks and Recreation’ and in ‘Frost/Nixon’?” Greenblatt added. “For whatever reason, comedians love to use her too. There’s the campy tributes but also a sincere love for her. And anytime anyone takes their clothes off [in TV or film], someone has got to play ‘Hot Stuff.’ “

Gleeks thought the actress wasn’t returning to the show next fall when Riley tweeted, “Just closed a chapter in my life, the only thing I’ve known day in and day out for three years. I’m going to miss the whole Glee family, seeing them everyday!”

When the show’s creator Ryan Murphy spoke to Vulture, he dispelled the gossip. “A lot of people have been writing Dianna [Agron] off the show, Amber’s off the show ? they’re not off the show,” he said. “I think Amber was talking about that bittersweet feeling of, ‘I’ll never be in the choir room with that exact group of people.’ … She’s excited about where her character is going. They all are. I wanted to do the right thing by all of them.”

MTV News caught up with Agron before the news broke that her character was returning. The actress told us that while she’s interested in the future of Quinn, she likes the story line to be a surprise.

“It’s so funny, because I do write, and there was part of me that was like, ‘Oh, I know these characters inside and out. What if they gave me a shot to sit in the writer’s room and toy away with that?’ But at the same time, it’s like, ‘I don’t want to have any say in that.’ I love the surprise element of it.”

While fans need not worry about the fate of Lea Michele, Cory Monteith or Chris Colfer following reports that the show will track Rachel, Finn and Kurt’s New York adventures, it’s hard not to wonder what’s in store for the glee-club seniors as they graduate on the season finale. With Quinn (Agron) off to Yale and Puck (Mark Salling) headed to California to expand his pool-cleaning business, some characters could get tossed to the side. But Murphy said that he told the actors if they wanted to stay on the show, he had a place for them ? including Matthew Morrison’s Will Schuester and Jane Lynch’s Coach Sue Sylvester. “They’re all coming back,” he said. “Anyone who is a regular is coming back. Everyone said yes.”

But he does clarify that they may not come back for the long haul. “It doesn’t mean everyone will be doing 22 episodes, but everyone wants to stay in our family and our world,’” he revealed. “I wanted to make sure those actors know that if they want to have a home, they have a home. If they want to explore new and different things while also having a home, that is also an option.”

“Glee” returns to Fox this fall, moving from Tuesday to Thursday nights, and is set to begin season four with a second Britney Spears tribute episode.

The resolution ? officially known as J4637 ? was written by State Senator Daniel Squadron (who represents the district of Brooklyn Heights, where Yauch was born) and celebrates Yauch’s many accomplishments and contributions, including raising the profile of New York City in a time when many thought its best days were behind it, noting:

“The Beastie Boys became well-known in the innovative music scene in Manhattan’s East Village and Lower East Side with a sound and a style all their own … [they] exemplified New York through a period in which grassroots creativity and a community of iconoclastic artists helped redefine and rejuvenate a city on the ropes, with iconic imagery from Brooklyn to Ludlow Street.”

Squadron also paid tribute to Yauch’s activism, including his Milarepa Fund (which raised awareness of the abuses in Tibet) and his Oscilloscope Laboratories, which produced films like the Yauch-directed “Gunnin’ For That #1 Spot,” about high-school basketball prospects competing in a tournament at Harlem’s historic Rucker Park.

J4637 also works in a nod to the Beastie’s 1994 hit “Sure Shot” (“The music and message of the Beastie Boys evolved over the years, but they can’t, they don’t, they won’t stop changing the face of hip-hop, of music and of our culture”) and allowed the Senate to “pause in its deliberations” to remember Yauch, “a man of colossal talent and charisma.”

“Adam Yauch is survived by his wife, Dechen Wengdu, and their daughter Losel,” the resolution concludes. “He will be missed by his family, his fans and all who knew him; his dedication to his music, his activism and his heritage leaves an indelible legacy of inspiration for all other artists.”

Unlike many of her contemporaries, Summer set herself apart with strong vocals backed by her songwriting skills, as well as some creative luck in hooking up with producers/songwriters Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte. The pair helped her pump out hit after hit and provided her with a sensual, almost ethereal sound on tracks such as “I Feel Love,” which seduced both on and off the dance floor.

Born LaDonna Adrian Gaines on December 31, 1948 in Boston, Massachusetts to a butcher father and schoolteacher mother, Summer showed promise as a singer from an early age. She made her public debut at age 10 at her church when the scheduled singer didn’t show up and she filled in. After appearing in a number of musicals and plays in high school and singing with the psychedelic rock band The Crow, she joined the cast of German production of the musical “Hair” in 1967 at age 18.

She stayed in Munich after the show’s run ended and recorded her debut solo album there in 1974, Lady of the Night. Though it spawned a hit overseas with “The Hostage,” she didn’t crack the U.S. market until a year later with the song that would make her an international superstar, the seductive disco anthem, “Love to Love You Baby.” The tune she created with Moroder and Bellotte was a #2 hit in the U.S. and landed her an American record deal with the it label of the era, Casablanca Records.

The 17-minute club remix of the single, which featured such real-sounding ecstatic moans that some radio stations refused to play it, became a huge hit and set a new standard for sophisticated arrangements in a genre often marked by cheesy sounding instrumentation and lazy songwriting.

She released two albums in 1976, A Love Trilogy, which featured the nearly 18-minute epic “Try Me, I Know We Can Make It” and the winter/spring/summer/autumn-themed Four Seasons of Love. In a singles genre where the one good song was the thing, Summer continued to put out consistently artistic albums, including 1977′s I Remember Yesterday, which featured the tune that would secure Summer’s place at the top of the disco diva pecking order, “I Feel Love.” That hypnotizing track was also the first one recorded with music made up entirely of synthesized sounds.

This being the era of excess, her second 1977 album, Once Upon A Time, was another concept disc, this one retelling the Cinderella story in the disco era on tracks like “Once Upon a Time,” “Fairy Tale High,” “Working the Midnight Shift” and “Queen for a Day.”

She transitioned into acting in 1978 in the disco comedy “Thank God It’s Friday,” which earned her a Grammy for Best Female R&B Vocal for the hit “Last Dance.” By 1979′s two-album Bad Girls she was indisputably a star, logging six weeks at #1 and scoring hits with the sexy “Bad Girls” and more rock-oriented “Hot Stuff.” When Summer released a double-album greatest hits disc later that year she became the first artists to ever score three #1 albums in a row with double-disc releases.

She went on to record a hit Barbra Streisand duet and moved over to the then-new Geffen Records, where her success began to wane. By 1983, she’d moved past the disco beat and into a synth-heavy R&B/new wave sound with the female empowerment anthem “She Works Hard For the Money.” That song, though, would effectively mark the end of her hit-making days. Actually, what it really is, is a callback to one of the best movie spoofs in MTV Movie Awards history, when Andy Samberg and Will Ferrell teamed up with J.J. Abrams (what?) at the 2009 show to stress to movie lovers the most important lesson one can take away from the action movie genre.

But that’s not the first (or last) time the Movie Awards have poked fun at our favorite flicks. The boys of *NSYNC teamed up to save the world from “Armageddon” levels of doom in 1999, and later, in 2003, Justin Timberlake was back again, ready and reloaded to take on “The Matrix.” As recently as 2011, Jason Sudeikis and Emma Stone went as far as to apply a live piano show to the art of movie-spoofing, as seen above.
